What equipment
does OMEGA 1 use?
OMEGA 1 uses a Motorola
Canopy 2.4 MHZ system.
What is a
Canopy system?
A Canopy system is
based on broadband wireless technologies that provides for high-speed
internet access. As opposed to the wireless technologies that support
the mobility of a cell phone, the Canopy technology is a fixed wireless
system. In a fixed wireless system a tower connects directly to the
Internet to transmit and receive data from your computer.
How long does
installation take?
The installation for
the canopies runs about two hours for a typical installation.
What
equipment will be installed?
To communicate with the
tower, which can stand as far as 15 miles away, you have to mount a
small rooftop antenna--and connect it to your computer.
Canopy radios are compact and designed to be mounted outdoors. And,
there’s no additional software to install, further limiting exposure to
error.
The system works a bit like satellite service, but it's a lot more
down-to-earth (literally).
“Wireless” Is my information secure?
Motorola, Inc.'s
Advanced Encryption Standard (DES) algorithm used in its Canopy wireless
broadband radios has been certified by the National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) to meet government Federal Information
Processing Standard, for ensuring secure data communication. DES is the
highest level of encryption available to the public. According to the
NIST, based on certain assumptions it would take 149 trillion years to
crack the code to access data being transmitted with DES 128-bit
encryption…….so safe data delivery with Canopy is VERY reliable.
